To begin, double-check both the concentration (strength) of your insulin and your dose. Remember, concentration and dose are not the same. The dose is how many units of insulin you will use. The concentration tells how many units of insulin are in each milliliter (mL), such as 100 units/mL (U-100), but this does not mean you will use 100 units at a time.

Follow the instructions given to you by your pharmacist or healthcare provider on how to prepare your vial for injection.

Inject insulin aspart within 5-10 minutes before a meal. The peak time for this insulin is 30 to 90 minutes with an effective duration lasting less than 5 hours. Do not use insulin aspart on an empty stomach, because this can increase your risk for severely low blood sugar.

Check your blood sugar levels regularly to ensure that this medication is working correctly. Low blood sugar is the most common side effect. Monitor for symptoms of low blood sugar, and report difficulties in keeping your blood glucose levels within the target range to your prescriber.
