Laundry chutes are nothing new. They were a pretty common and low tech feature in many single-story ranch houses built in the 20th century. In these homes, a laundry chute was essentially a trap door in the bathroom with a slide that carries clothes to the washing machine in the basement below. Today, many homes have laundry rooms or at least dedicated laundry spaces. And laundry has moved out of the basement and is often conveniently located on the same floor as the bedrooms.
