Mapleson D Circuit

The Mapleson D circuit, also known as the Bain's circuit, is a type of anesthetic breathing circuit used in anesthesia to deliver oxygen and anesthetic gases to a patient during surgery. It's named after Dr. Robert A. Macintosh, who developed several breathing circuits, including the Mapleson circuits. The Mapleson D circuit is classified as a "Mapleson system" based on its anatomical dead space and the direction of gas flow. It is characterized by having the fresh gas inlet and the reservoir bag located between the patient and the expiratory valve. This configuration allows for efficient removal of exhaled gases and minimal rebreathing of carbon dioxide.
