Indications:
Non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2), when diet has failed and especially if the patient is obese. Biomet can be given alone or as an adjunct to diet or can be administered in combination with a sulphonylurea.

Dosage and Administration:
The dosage of metformin must be individualized on the basis of both effectiveness and tolerance, while not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of 2500 mg. Metformin should be given in divided doses with meals and should be started at a low dose, with gradual dose escalation, both to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and to permit identification of the minimum dose required for adequate glycemic control of the patient.
