The operation of a refrigerated air dryer involves the following key components and processes:

Refrigeration System: The refrigeration system consists of a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and expansion valve. It works by cooling the compressed air to reduce its temperature and remove moisture.

Air-to-Air Heat Exchanger: The hot incoming compressed air passes through an air-to-air heat exchanger, which pre-cools the air using the outgoing cold air. This helps to reduce the load on the refrigeration system.

Refrigeration Evaporator: The pre-cooled compressed air then enters the refrigeration evaporator, where it further cools down. As the air temperature drops, the moisture vapor present in the compressed air begins to condense into liquid water.

Separation and Drainage: The condensed water is separated from the compressed air and collected in a moisture separator. It is then drained out of the system through a drain valve or automatic condensate drain.

Air-to-Refrigerant Heat Exchanger: The warm refrigerant from the compressor is passed through an air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger, where it absorbs heat from the compressed air. This increases the temperature of the refrigerant, which is then sent to the condenser for cooling.

Condenser: In the condenser, the refrigerant releases the absorbed heat to the ambient air, causing it to cool down and condense back into a liquid state.

Expansion Valve: The condensed refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, which reduces its pressure and temperature, preparing it to re-enter the evaporator and repeat the cycle.
