Ceftriaxone is a third generation cephalosporin with a broad spectrum of activity against the majority of gram positive and gram negative pathogenic bacteria in vitro. It acts against bacteria by inhibiting biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptide. The Tazobactam is a powerful competitive, irreversible inhibitor of the wide variety of I -lactamase produced by common Gram positive and Gram negative aerobes and anaerobes.
Against plasmid-mediated I -lactamases the potency of tazobactam is greater than that of sulbactam. This increases Ceftriaxone activity against various bacteria namely Epidermides, Pseudomonas, Aeruginosa, Klebesiella, Pneumonia & E-Coli.
