- Water passes through the cartridge, and the impurities are trapped in the filter material.
- Cartridge filters are known for their ease of maintenance, and the cartridges can be cleaned or replaced as needed.

3. **Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filters:**
- DE filters use a fine powder, diatomaceous earth, as the filtering media.
- The DE is coated on a grid inside the filter, and as water passes through, it captures even smaller particles than sand or cartridge filters.
- DE filters require regular cleaning and recharging with fresh DE powder.
