Examination gloves are deemed sterile because they have been sterilized according to health regulators though non-sterilized gloves are also sold, bought and used. In standard practice, sterile gloves have a higher acceptable quality level (AQL) of pinholes. While surgical gloves have an AQL of 1.0 to 1.5, examination gloves carry an AQL of 1.5 to 2.5.
