Automatic or super-automatic, an espresso machine is pre-programmed to grind a specific amount of coffee beans, tamp it and extract the espresso shot in a cup. It may be connected to a water line or to a reservoir. It comes with an in-line flowmeter, and a portafilter basket to minimize coffee’s contact with any metal part.
