Q. What size is a resectoscope?
Answer
Group 1 (n=35) used a 24 F resectoscope, while group 2 (n=36) used a 26 F resectoscope. All patients used the same urethral catheter, were monitored for the same amount of time, and were given the same kind of energy. Groups were compared on the prevalence and location of urethral stricture development following TURP. After a prostate has been removed using a monopolar technique, 2.2% to 9.8% of patients will have urethral strictures (2). It is not well understood what causes urethral stricture after TURP. However, strictures of the bulbar urethra are a documented complication of endoscopic instrumentation.
