As a thumb rule, spices and dried herbs should be kept in a cold, dark area. The heat from the burner and oven might harm the spices, reducing their efficacy. Furthermore, most dried herbs and spices lose their effectiveness after 6 months, but they're still OK to use; just keep that in mind when cooking and adjust seasoning (add more) as needed.
