Ebonite Rod

In the same way that a rod of ebonite would become negatively charged after being brushed with fur, a rod of glass will become positively charged after being stroked with silk. Therefore, according to the rule of static electric charges, oppositely charged things attract one another. Ebonite rods get negatively charged when touched with fur, whereas glass rods become positively charged when stroked with silk material. Thus, they will be drawn to one another. This brings closer proximity between an ebonite rod brushed with fur and a glass rod rubbed with silk material. The two will be attracted to one another.

An ebonite rod has a negative charge, whereas a fur pelt has a positive one. The electrons in the fur are transferred to the ebonite rod when rubbing the two together. The lack of electrons has caused the fur to become positively charged. The ebonite rod, on the other hand, is negatively charged because it possesses an overabundance of electrons. A positive electrical charge is applied to the fur in the first scenario. It's important to remember that during positive (and negative) electrification, it's the electrons, not the protons, that are exchanged. This is why generating charges by rubbing the copper rod with a flannel causes current to travel counterclockwise around the rod before moving to the hand.
