Fan Parts: Design & Uses
Don't put off learning how to repair your fan until it fails. The quicker it is to solve an issue as soon as it occurs, the more you understand about your fan. Fans may seem to be straightforward devices, but there is more to them than meets the eye. Along with the apparent components, a fan also has hidden components that could require frequent maintenance or cleaning. You may start out by performing these things yourself by becoming familiar with the components of a fan.
What are fan parts?
Here is a brief overview of some important fan parts:
- Motor: Most table fan motors are either single-phase capacitor start-and-run models or seldom shaded-pole designs. At a frequency of 50 Hz, the motor's working voltage will be 230 V +/- 10%. The stator and rotor are the two components that make up this motor. The stator, which is built of laminated silicon steel, employs two windings that are 90 degrees electrically apart and are referred to as the beginning and running windings. Slots in the laminated iron core contain the windings. The beginning torque is dependent on the sine of the angle between the currents in the starting and running windings. In order to provide a large beginning torque and the necessary phase shift between these currents, a capacitor is used. It is linked in series with the starting winding. Typically, a 1.5 mF electrolytic capacitor is used in table fans. Uses one-phase squirrel cage winding on the rotor.
- Blades: The blades, which come in sets of three or four, are manufactured from aluminum sheets to be lightweight. Modern table fans have plastic blades that have been formed. For precise and smooth air supply, the blades are well balanced. Changing from 100 to 400 rpm, the blade's sweep speed (Revolutions per minute). Reduced to fewer than a thousand revolutions per minute, the fan can't spin much faster (Revolutions per minute). A grub screw and the blade assembly are integrated into the rotor shaft.
- Guard: The guard is provided to provide adequate protection against bodily harm. The fan guards have wire mesh covering the blade on the front and back. It prevents outside items from contacting the blade, preventing accidents. In most cases, the front guard may be removed, whereas the rear guard will be permanently attached to the fan's body. The guard wire typically has a diameter of 1.6 mm or less and a maximum diameter of 10 mm.
- Bearing: Felt wicks are used to transport oil via a tiny hole bored into the bearing wall of the phosphor bronze sleeve bearings used in the bell housings of many different fan motors. The felt wick in the bell casing draws oil via a hole. Many fan motors mount the rotor on an integrated ball bearing. It is self-aligned and secured in place by spring clips in the bell housing.
- Mounting: Its bottom is where the fan system, including the motor and blades, is mounted. A stiff mounting requires twisting the whole fan body to change direction, whereas a semi-rigid installation does not.
- Oscillating mechanism: In addition to the gear on the vertical shaft, the oscillating mechanism also includes a worm gear or motor shaft that contacts a gear on a short jack. A powerful crank lever coupled to the disc at one end and the motor at the other end causes the fan to oscillate while a disc attached to the lower end of the vertical shaft spins at a very slow pace. A compression stud device and many oscillation units that are integrated into the gear mechanism utilize this standard. The fan may be used as a fixed or oscillating type thanks to its design.
- Power cord: Employed is a flexible conductor with three cores that is roughly 2 meters long and features an earthing conductor in addition to the other two conductors. At the location where the cord enters the body, a cord grasp is also installed.
- Fan regulator: The table fan has a built-in fan regulator.
Types of Fan Parts
The different types of fan parts are:
- Fan Blades: Most fans' blades are a defining feature. In a fan, they are revolving paddle-like parts that push the air around. They're tilted in order to channel airflow from one location to another. In certain types, the direction of airflow is determined by the angle of the blades, while in others, it is controlled by a switch.
- Center Hub: The middle of the fan's blades is where the hub is. Without it, your fan would not function at all since the motor and the remainder of the fan would be two separate components. It is the mechanism that connects the motor to the fan blades. Or to put it another way, the hub holds everything together.
- Fan Motor: A motor drives an electric fan. A motor is required to keep any fan spinning and circulating air, whether it be in a car, on a computer, on a desk, on a window, or on a ceiling. Ceiling fan motors are housed in a specialized motor housing assembly that is mounted above the fan's central hub. Behind the hub is where you'll often find the motor housing unit for a desk or box fan. A computer or car's fan may or may not have its own motor, depending on the type.
- Power Switch: It can sound too simplistic to say that electrical fans are powered by electricity, yet electrical parts are necessary for the fan to function. When a switch is turned, the circuit is complete, allowing electricity to be supplied to the motor, which drives the fan and causes it to revolve, from an external power source. Not every fan has a noticeable switch. Computer fans turn on when the computer turns on; the switch is flipped when electricity is given to the whole device.
- Protective Guard: Fan guards protect the user and the fan from harm. Not all supporters wear a guard. Those with a high likelihood of coming into touch with environmental factors, such as plant matter, extra mechanical components, or the user's skin, will be equipped with a guard. Since there is minimal chance of bumping into anybody or anything when using a ceiling fan, many people forego the safety guard. Protective guards for computer fans are optional and serve to keep the fan's blades from becoming tangled up in the case's other components. Fan guards in automobiles may be found or not, depending on the make and model of the car, the fan's function, and its location.
- Mount a fan” The mount retains the fan in its current location. The majority of fans are fixed using screws and brackets, whether they are fastened to an engine, a CPU, a ceiling, or - in the case of a window or desk fan - to the stand that supports the fan.
- Electrical Wiring: Without wiring, a fan would be limited in its ability to access and utilize energy, making it difficult to function in enclosed spaces where other means of propulsion, like wind, are limited. The wall outlet for a desk fan converts the electricity it receives into a form that the fan can use. To get the blades of the fan turning, electricity must be sent from the motor to the rest of the assembly through the wiring.
- Fanless blades: There are more recent fans on the market that vary somewhat from conventional fans in that they don't have fan blades. Instead, they make use of more recent technology that amplifies the airflow for a bladeless fan feel by drawing air into the machine and releasing it utilizing low-pressure principles.
How are fan parts made?
A fan blade is made by rotomolding around a support component that has been prepositioned and extends partially out of the mold. The support member is shaped or has one or more projections that are partially incorporated into the plastic that makes up the fan blade's skin. The design of fan motors is fairly straightforward. They are made up of an electric motor, either synchronous or asynchronous, a fan wheel attached to the corresponding shaft, and line connections. But DC motors are used in things like cars and computers. Plastics of various types make up the body's remaining portions.
