What is special about Gir cow?

One of the most important Zebu breeds to have originated in India is known as the Gir, often spelt Gyr. It has been implemented regionally in the process of bettering other breeds, such as the Red Sindhi and the Sahiwal, among others. Additionally, it was one of the breeds that were used in the creation of the Brahman breed on the North American continent. Because it is a Bos indicus breed, the Gir is able to withstand both the high temperatures and the tropical illnesses that are common in South American nations like Brazil and other countries in that region. In order to create the Girolando breed, which is noted for its exceptional capacity to produce milk, it is often crossed with Friesian cows. The Gir is easily identifiable because of its striking physical characteristics, which include a distinctively domed and rounded forehead (the only ultra-convex breed in the world), long pendulous horns, and ears that spiral out and backwards.

Gir is often speckled with colours ranging from red to yellow to white, with black being the only colour that is not allowed. They first appeared in the state of Gujarat, which is located in the southwestern part of India, and have since made their way to the states of Maharashtra and Rajasthan, which are located nearby. The average weight of a cow is 385 kilograms, and its height is 130 centimetres; the average weight of a bull is 545 kilograms, and its height is 140 centimetres. [3] Calves weigh around 20 kg when they are born. In India, the record milk output was 3,182 kilograms with 4.5% fat content, whereas the average milk yield for the Gir is 1590 kilograms per lactation. In Brazil, the average yield is 3,500 kilograms of each lactation, with the cow Profana de Brasilia setting a world record production of 17,120 kg.

Why is Gir cow milk white?

Milk is a natural food that contains all of its component parts, minerals including phosphorus, vitamins including calcium, carbohydrates in the form of lactose, fat, protein, water, and a variety of other bioactive components. Milk is considered to be a whole food. Caseins are one of the primary kinds of proteins found in milk, and they are responsible for the formation of micelles, which are very small particles that cluster together with calcium and phosphate. Casein micelles are responsible for the milk's white colour because they cause light to be refracted and scattered when they are exposed to light.

Why is Gir cow milk not yellow?

Scientists from all around the globe agree that A2 Milk is the purest kind of milk that can be found anywhere in the world. It is essential to have a solid understanding of the fact that drinking cow's milk alone is insufficient, and the cow used must be a pure Desi cow that produces milk of the A2 kind. This milk has been granted the rank of Amrit in our ancient books, and it has been acknowledged globally by leading scientists to be the purest kind of milk that can be found anywhere in the world. When we discuss the colour of milk that comes from pure Desi cows, there are a variety of perspectives and debates around the topic. Let's get a better understanding of this...

Cow's milk is an extremely rich source of vitamins, particularly B7, B2, and B12; the yellow-orange colour of fat-containing goods manufactured from cow's milk is due, in part, to the presence of certain vitamins that are responsible for this colour. There are two reasons why some milk might seem ivory or yellow in colour. To begin, the vitamin riboflavin (B2) found in milk has a colour that is between green and yellow. Second, the nutrition of the cow might be a contributing element. Cow's milk comes in a variety of colours, from creamy white to yellowish. The amount of yellow in the milk varies depending on the breed, diet, size of the fat globules, milk fat content, and other variables. When cows graze on fields throughout the summer, the grass appears yellow because other natural leaves and grass are both abundant in beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A. (As a matter of elementary chemistry, when one molecule of beta-carotene is broken apart, it gives rise to two odourless molecules of vitamin A.)

Cow's milk contains enough amounts of sulphur, which acts as a tonic for the brain. As a result, drinking cow's milk keeps a person cognitively awake as well as physically active. Proteins and calcium are two of the most important nutrients for our bodies, and cow's milk is one of the greatest suppliers of both. In addition to their many other functions, proteins are essential for the development of muscles, the maintenance of normal body growth, and the provision of both energy and sustenance to the bones. Calcium plays an important role in the consolidation of teeth and bones, both of which must be maintained throughout life. In addition to this, it is a source of many different vitamins and minerals. The colour of cow's milk may range from white to creamy white to a very pale yellow depending on the breed of cow and the diet it receives.

Yellowish milk is produced by cows who consume fresh green pasturage, rich green hay or silage, or fodder. This kind of milk may also be produced by cows that consume fodder. When left undisturbed for a full twelve hours, the cream that rises to the top has a deep golden colour. The milk that is left behind after the cream has been removed will be white in colour. To tell you the truth, everything depends on the nutritious food that the cows consume. We are always experimenting with new kinds and types of fodder for the cows in order to provide them with a diet that is richer in well-balanced nutrients. This may result in a change in the colour of the milk produced by the cows. The quality of the milk remains the same, despite the fact that the colour of the milk may differ depending on the cows' "Ghar ka Khana," which literally translates to "house-produced fodder."

How long does a Gir cow give milk?

A Gir heifer that has been given enough nutrition may have her first estrus between the ages of 20 and 24 months and may give birth to her first calf as early as 36 months of age. There are around 280–285 days that make up the gestation period. The animal will continue to produce milk for around 310 days after the birth of its young. On average, a cow only produces milk for around half of the year. A single cow may live for roughly 12 to 15 years and give birth to anywhere from six to ten offspring throughout her lifetime. The average age at the first heat was 1149 days, while the average age at calving was 1534 days.

The average length of time between calvings was 423 days, while the dry season lasted an average of 123 days. While heifers got an average of 1.07 inseminations per conception, cows received an average of 1.64 inseminations per conception. The total amount of milk produced throughout lactation was an average of 206 litres, and the duration of lactation was an average of 326 days. The average milk output in 300 days was 1 930 litres. The amount of milk that was produced each day throughout the calving period was 4.98 litres. The proportion of fat in the milk, on average, varied from 4.690.04 to 4.970.02, respectively.
