Eye Drops containing the dye (fluorescein) will be administered, or a strip of paper carrying the dye will be touched to your eye. • Electronic indentation method: An optometrist, an ophthalmologist, a family medicine physician, or a technician are the types of medical professionals who are qualified to do electronic tonometry. You won't feel the tonometer throughout the test because your doctor will numb the surface of your eyes using eye drops.

• Noncontact (or air-puff) method: Ophthalmologists and optometrists are the medical professionals most likely to perform this kind of tonometry. In order to use this procedure, you will not need eye drops to numb your eye. A cushioned support will be placed under your chin, and you will be instructed to focus intently into the machine. The corner of your eye receives a quick blast of air. You will hear a puffing sound, and you may feel a little pressure or a chilly sensation on your eye. The difference in the amount of light that is reflected off of the cornea after it has been indented by the air puff is what the tonometer uses to determine the intraocular pressure (IOP). It is possible to do the examination many times for each eye.
