The antacid neutralizes stomach acid, while alginic acid reacts with saliva and sodium bicarbonate to produce a foam barrier that sits on top of your stomach's acidic contents. When reflux occurs, this foam barrier is refluxed first, protecting the lining of your esophagus.

It is a linear copolymer with homopolymeric blocks of (1-4)-linked -D-mannuronate (M) and its C-5 epimer -L-guluronate (G) residues, respectively, covalently linked together in different sequences or blocks.
