The probiotic concept is that if sufficient lactic-acid producing bacteria can be introduced into the intestinal tract of animals at a time when the balance of microflora has swung in favor of pathogen during the stress or disease or when no lactic acid bacteria are present are present at birth or following antibiotic treatment, then digestive upsets can be minimized or overcome.
