This drug is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to treat GERD, ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, and erosive esophagitis. It reduces the quantity of acid that is produced in the stomach. Pantoprazole protects the GI (gastrointestinal) tract from the effects of stomach acid and infection. It is taken by mouth as a delayed-release (long-acting) tablet. It's often taken once or twice daily. It should be taken around 30 minutes before meals for maximum efficiency. Tablets should not be crushed, split, or chewed and should be consumed whole. An injection is given by a healthcare practitioner into a vein. Headache. Stools that are too loose (diarrhea). Hip, spine, or wrist fractures are some of the most common side effects. Keep out of the reach of children and store in a cold, dry place.
