Cefoclav Dry Syrup

Extensively used in clinical practice due to its efficacy and also safety. Unfortunately, in India, some cases have started reporting emergence of resistant strains of some Gram positive and Gram negative microorganisms. Clavulanic acid is first oral beta lactamases inhibitor. Beta-lactamase inhibitor combinations provide one strategy to overcome beta-lactamase-mediated resistance. Beta-lactamases constitute the major defense mechanism of pathogenic bacteria against beta- lactam antibiotics. Combination of cefixime and clavulanic acid improves the antibacterial activity and resistance to the multi-drug therapy. Based on pharmacokinetic profile also the combination shows synergistic effect.

Sequential treatment after initial I.V. chemotherapy and after parenteral cephalosporin.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains:
Cefixime - 50 mg
Clavulanic acid - 31.5 mg
