Cirrhinus Mrigala Fish

This is mainly found in fresh water or Northern India, Punjab, West Bengal and Orissa. This carp very much with Labeo rohita except that it has wider mouth and thinner lips. Body is dark grey on the dorsal side while orange colored on the ventral side. The maximum length attained by this carp is about 90-100 cm and the growth of about 20 cm is recorded in 8 months. This growth data is based on the experiment conducted on 6000 fingerlings. The young ones have similar feeding habits as Catla and Rohu but fingerlings and adults feed on the huge amount of decaying organisms.
