It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of ceftriaxone against bacteria. The combination of ampicillin and sulbactam injection is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, including infections of the skin, female reproductive organs, and abdomen stomach area. Ampicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
