This carbon black powder is made from the hydrocarbon fraction of petroleum. It has an odor like that of coal but dies not to produce any combustible gases at normal temperatures and pressures. Its CAS no is 1333-86-4. it absorbs readily in water, but the particles and the compounds that they absorb offer little or no toxicity to aquatic life. It must be stored in a well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition and exposed to light at no more than room temperature.
