Kesimpta Ofatumumab To Treat Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis Rms

Kesimpta (ofatumumab) is a CD20-directed cytolytic antibody (immunotherapy) indicated for the treatment of adult patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease.

It is available as a single-dose prefilled Sensoready autoinjector pen or as a single-dose prefilled syringe, each containing 20 mg/0.4 mL ofatumumab.

How does Kesimpta (ofatumumab) work?
MS is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the central nervous system. It is characterized by destruction of myelin that covers nerve endings, and damage of axons in the brain, optic nerves and spinal cord. Immune cell B-cells are thought to be involved in the development of MS, and targeting these cells is a way to treat MS.

Kesimpta (ofatumumab, formerly OMB157) is an anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody. CD20 is an antigen, a type of protein, expressed on the surface of B-cells. How ofatumumab works in MS exactly is not fully understood yet, but it is thought that it lowers the amount of B-cells by triggering cell death (lysis).
