Silica fume, due to its small particle size (close to 1/100th of the cement particle size), acts as a microfiller in mixed concrete promoting very high particle packing. As a reactive pozzolanic material, the silica fume reacts with the cement during setting to form calcium silicate hydrate (CASH) phase which has much larger surface area and better binding, translating to improved hardness of the concrete. The high surface area of silica fume and low water content of silica-fume-concrete facilitates fewer channels formed because of water escape, as a direct result of reduced bleeding. This reduces the impact of chloride attack and corrosive agents, improving the durability of concrete - a coveted property in coastal cities such as Mumbai. Reduced bleeding helps significantly speed up finishing, resulting in a continuous one-pass-finishing process. The greater slump from increased cohesion also means thicker layers in shotcrete. The enhanced mechanical properties of high strength concrete include increased compressive strength and elastic modulus, proportional at all ages. Available: Silica Fume or Microsilica of various grades (Silica content ranging from 85 % to 95 %) in Densified and Undensified forms for use in various high strength concrete applications. Properties Impacted: Particle packing and CASH phases in concrete resulting in improved binding properties and higher bound surface area.
