Antistatic additives are essential to ease material handling and prevent equipment damage from static charge build-up. They also provide a lubricating property during processing. The controlled incompatibility of antistatic additives with the bulk polymer causes the antistat to migrate to the surface where it discharges static build-up by weakly bonding with moisture to create a microscopic conductive layer, simultaneously lubricating the surface for processing.
