UASB :- An Introduction The UASB maintains a cushion of active sludge suspended on the lower part of the digestor and uses this sludge blanket directly as filter medium.
Working Mechanism
(1) Wastewater is fed to a blanket (bed) of sludge in upwards direction.
(2) The organic matter (BOD & COD) contact with the anaerobic microbes which convert the organics to methane and other gases.
(3) The gas bubbles get released from the sludge bed and rise upwards.
(4) Gas - Solid and Liquid separation is achieved in a separator placed at the top of the reactor.
CONTAMINATION REMOVAL EFFICIENCY Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD)a 80-85 %
Biological Oxygen Demand(BOD)a 75-85 % Suspended Solids (SS) a 75 - 85 % Coliform Removal a 70 - 90 %
