India is the largest producer of castor seeds and castor oil. The Castor produced by India contains 48% oil among which 42% is suitable to extract. Gujarat produces 86% castor in India. The other states in the list of major castor producers include Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. Castor is cultivated mainly in Mehsana,mBanaskantha and Saurashtra or Kutch regions of Gujarat. Andhra Pradesh grows castor in its Nalgolda and Mahboobnagar districts. After India, it is China and Brazil that cultivates 23% and 7% of castor respectively. This castor oil is used as an essential ingredient of hydraulic fluid, lubricants, paints, dyes, soaps, waxes, perfumes, nylon and pharmaceutical products.
