Popularly known as 'Til' in India, the Sesame Seeds are referred as the seed of immortality in Vedas. The botanical name of sesame is Sesamum Indicum L. India is reckoned as one of the major producers of sesame in the world. Gujarat is known to be the leading sesame producer in India. The other Indian states that cultivates this oil seed include Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The 80% of sesame in India is produced during the Khariff season which starts from June/July to September/October. The renaming 20% crop is grown in the Rabi season i.e. December to March.
